Six Whanganui kayakers confirmed for Silver Fern

Former students Max Brown, left, and Toby Brooke, will be returning to World Championships competition in July, plus four other students from Whanganui High School.

Six Whanganui kayakers confirmed for Silver Fern - all present and past students from Whanganui High School.

Whanganui will be strongly represented once again in international competition as three locals are off to Plovdiv in Bulgaria, while two of them will be joined by three others going to Adelaide.

Max Brown will be heading back to the ICF Canoe Sprint Junior and Under 23 World Championships, having been coached by Frederic Loyer to make the Under 23's squad.

Newcomers to the World Champs are Whanganui's Jack Clifton and Liam Lace, who under local guru Brian Scott have qualified for the Junior (Under 18) squad for Plovdiv in July 26-29.

As part of their preparations, Clifton and Lace will also be going to the Asia-Pacific Regatta in Adelaide on May 11-13.

The regatta has been organised by the Australian, New Zealand and Japanese canoe racing bodies.

Also going to Adelaide is Tobias (Toby) Brooke in his comeback season from back injury, representing NZ Under 21's, and his sister Sophie Brooke, representing the Under 16's.

Lucas Thompson will compete in Under 18, with all of them coached by Scott.
