Some big names in the book world are heading to Whanganui in September for the Whanganui Literary Festival.
The festival was officially launched at the Community Arts Centre on Saturday, with this year's programme made public.
The festival will be held from September 30 to October 8.
The line-up of authors and writers includes author Fiona Farrell, former poet laureate CK Stead, Ockham New Zealand award winner Adam Dudding, playwright Roger Hall, cookbook author Jo Seagar, performance poet Selina Tusitala Marsh, music critic Nick Bollinger, graphic novelist Sarah Laing.
Local writers Chris Moisa and Terry Sarten will also join the line-up.
Whanganui Literary Festival chair Gillian Tasker said the launch had been very successful, with around 30 people attending.
Also at the launch was a painting on glass by Whanganui artist Aaron Potaka, The muse presents the writer with a fully developed draft.
"This is the image that's on our programme cover. It's the third time in a row that Aaron has provided an image for our programme, and we're very grateful for his support."
Ms Tasker said this year's festival has a "very full" programme.
The festival opens with a Fringe Festival, which leads into the festival proper, including a weekend of invited author presentations.
There will be poetry readings, singers, book launches, children's events, drama performances, workshops and morning teas.
Earlybird season tickets for the Whanganui Literary Festival are now on sale for $70, and can be purchased from the Royal Wanganui Opera House. Some events are sold separately from the season tickets.
