The Cooks Gardens Velodrome was another hive of activity on Saturday for the 2020 West Coast North Island (WCNI) Track Championships.

Riders from New Plymouth through down to Wellington converged on Whanganui to compete.

Local riders to pick up medals were Jack Overweel, Finnegan Murphy, Millicent Murphy, Kenzey Compton and Quin Vivian.

Last year after the WCNI champs, Overweel went on to win Under 15 boys derby race gold at the Vantage Age Group Track Cycling Nationals in Cambridge.

This year's nationals are being held in Invercargill in March.

WHS student Jack Overweel won 4 medals in the U17 grade - 2 golds and 2 silvers:

1st - 2000m Scratch Race
1st - 2000m Individual Pursuit
2nd - 500m Time Trial
2nd - Match Sprint

Fantastic racing Jack!! 👏 👏
All the best for the Nationals in March. 👍
