Whanganui High School Sports

Whanganui High school has just returned from a very successful N.Z secondary schools athletics champs in Hastings from the 5th-7th December, with 9 athletes celebrating medal winning performances.

Gold Medal - Junior mixed 4*100mtrs 🥇Hannah Cameron, Olive Coombs, Charlie McBride and Alex Payne

Silver medal - Junior boys 4*100mtrs 🥈Tyler O'Brien, Ethan Wells, Riley Thomas and Joshua Richardson.

Silver Medal - Junior 4*400mtr relays 🥈Charlie McBride, Bruce McGregor, Alex Payne and Ethan Wells

Gold Medal🥇 for Bruce McGregor in the Junior Boys 300mtrs Hurdles and a Bronze Medal in the Junior Boys 100mtrs. 🥉

This year saw a record 269 schools participate with WHS success putting them up with the power school's in the country in terms of their performances. A major focus of the programme is relays which bring in a team component and challenge the depth of the schools squad.

Whanganui High school fielded 21 athletes across the grades who came home with 36 Personal bests, including school records and one NZSS best.

Attention now turns to the 2026 NZ Secondary school Champs to be held on home soil in Whanganui, where the school is looking to field its biggest ever team and achieve more success.
