Lulu Dufty Represents Whanganui High School Confucius Classroom at Embassy Reception

Last Friday, Lulu Dufty from the Whanganui High School Confucius Classroom was honoured to be invited to attend the “Reception for New Zealanders with Academic or Study-related Experience in China”, hosted by the Education Office of the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand.

The reception brought together New Zealanders who have studied, worked, visited, or otherwise gained academic and educational experience in China. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the strong educational and cultural connections between New Zealand and China.

As part of the event, Lulu was invited to perform the popular Chinese song 《柠檬树》 (“Lemon Tree”) for the guests. Her confident performance and enthusiasm for Chinese language and culture were warmly received by the audience.

Lulu has been actively involved in learning Chinese and participating in cultural activities at Whanganui High School. Her Chinese learning journey has extended well beyond the classroom, giving her opportunities to develop her language skills, build confidence, and experience Chinese culture through music, speaking and cultural events.

Earlier this year, Lulu achieved an outstanding result in the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition in New Zealand. As a result, she will represent New Zealand at the Chinese Bridge competition in China in September this year.

This is a significant achievement for Lulu and an exciting milestone in her Chinese learning journey. It is also a wonderful example of how learning a language can open doors to international experiences, cultural understanding and meaningful connections between young people from different countries.

From the Chinese classroom at Whanganui High School, to the stage in New Zealand, and now to China, Lulu is showing how language can build bridges between cultures.

The Whanganui High School Confucius Classroom is proud to support Lulu on this exciting journey and looks forward to seeing her represent New Zealand in China.
