Whanganui High School Sports
The Target Shooting NZ Inter-Secondary Schools Inter-Island Match was held over the weekend of 5–6 September, with 34 secondary school teams competing.
WHS Team 1, consisting of Aria Hill, Patrick McCartie and Marshall Munro, were the top North Island team after an extremely close competition. They finished just 0.05 points ahead of St Oran’s College, securing 2nd place overall in New Zealand.
All three team members performed exceptionally well, with Patrick McCartie shooting a personal best of 100.07 out of a possible 100.10. Patrick also finished as the overall individual winner across both the North and South Islands — an outstanding achievement!
Adding to the success, Aria and Patrick have both been selected to represent the North Island in an upcoming match against Scotland.
Aria has also enjoyed an impressive year, travelling to Auckland in August after qualifying for the National North vs South event. She was selected for both the North Island Women’s Team and the North Island Junior Team, with both teams going on to defeat the South Island.
WHS Team 2, made up of Owen Bunn, William Hird and Lucian Prime, also represented the school extremely well and put in some excellent performances throughout the competition.
A fantastic effort from all our WHS shooters. WHS is incredibly proud of your achievements and the way you have represented our school. Well done!
