Atkinson nets 10

HOCKEY: Whanganui export and former WHS student Martin Atkinson finished as the top goal scorer in the 2016 Ford National Hockey League when he added his 10th field goal in the Central Mavericks' win over North Harbour in the playoff for third and fourth in Whangarei on Saturday.

Atkinson scored in the seventh minute for a quick reply to Harbour's opening goal.

The scores were tied 3-3 at fulltime, with Central going on to win the penalty shootout 3-2.
