Local teen is off to junior world series - July 2015

Wanganui's outstanding women's cricket all-rounder Jessica Watkin has been selected in the New Zealand Under-18 Indoor women's team off to the 2015 WICF Junior World Series in Brisbane.

The Wanganui High School teenager who plays senior men's club cricket in Wanganui and for the Central District Hines nationally, has been going back and forth to Wellington for training sessions.

Mother Kellie Watkin said her daughter played one indoor tournament at Queens Birthday Weekend and found she liked the format.

Jessica kept attending training camps and was successful at the New Zealand team trials.

She will also play in the Wellington women's team at the national tournament in two weeks.

The Junior World Series is for girls' Under-18 squads and boys at Under-14, 16 and 18 level.

It starts in September.
