Quintet to race in new relay event - June 2016

FIVE Of the 16 Whanganui High School athletes heading to the New Zealand Secondary School Cross Country Championships in Rotorua this weekend will also represent the city in a newly-introduced regional relay.

The WHS team consists of six senior boys, three senior girls, three junior boys, one junior girl and three Year 9 boys. Of those Rebecca Baker, Connor Hoskin, Travis Bayler, Louis Hogan and Flynn Hogan, the reserve, were selected from the Wanganui Secondary School Cross Country to compete in the relay.

The NZSS Cross Country is on Saturday and this year the NZSSAA has added the regional relay which will be raced on Sunday. The relays include five-person teams in each of the Year 9, junior and senior grades.

Teacher-in-charge, Stacey Hildreth is looking forward to the challenging weekend ahead.

"It's great to be taking a wonderful bunch of students away who have put in the work and will represent our school well."

Selected athletes will have the opportunity to represent their region competing in a team chosen from this.
