Rountree tops two classes at champs

Whanganui's James Rountree was the best 15-19 year old rider in both his bike divisions at the North Island Secondary Schools Motocross championships on Friday finishing 1st in both.

Hosted by the Wanganui Motorcycle Club on the club's track at Languard Bluff, the contingent of local riders made the best of racing on home soil, with...

Whanganui High School winning the overall points with a strong turnout of 16 riders among the 70-odd to compete.

Rountree won both the 125cc crown and the 250cc 4 stroke title for his grade.

Troy Bullock came third overall for the 13-16 years grade in the 85cc class, while Ajah Sullivan did well on her move up to a 125cc machine by finishing third overall in the girls class.

Three other locals picked up a Top 10 finish.

Rikki Wainhouse was seventh in the 12-14 years grade for 125cc, while Jaxon Watt was eighth in the 15-19 grade.

In 250cc competition, Tom Gilligan was 10th in the 15-19 year grade.

Whanganui was strongly represented in that division, with Oliver Dennison finishing 13th, just ahead of Blake Rountree in 14th and then Alex Luff-Scott in 16th, while Jack Nayler was 23rd.
