Rowers ready for Twizel

Aramoho Whanganui Rowing Club members, both present and former, will be looking to make a strong showing when the NZ Rowing Championship Regatta begins on Twizel's Lake Ruataniwha today.

Representing AWRC in Twizel are cox Niamh Mullany, Ben Tijsen-Cox, Cameron Lawrence - all Whanganui High School students - along with Guy Thomson, Nathan Luff, Luke Watts, James Sandston and Hugh Pawson.

Amongst themselves, these rowers claimed six medals at the North Island Club Championships just over two weeks ago.

Other names to watch are Nicola Baker, who is with the Central Regional Performance Centre (RPC) and rowed for the Bay of Plenty club in her school years, as well as former AWRC standout Martin O'Leary, now with Waikato RPC.

Chris Harris and the Gowler sisters - Kerri and Jackie - are members of the NZ Summer Squad as the first steps towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympics begin now.

The only Rio Olympic medallist still currently active in the squad is Union Boat Club prodigy Rebecca Scown, who has decided against a sabbatical to keep her hand in for Tokyo.
