South Island Geography trip was amazing
🏔 South Island NCEA L2 Geography trip - stunning! 🏔
The NCEA level 2 Geography students went on a 9 day adventure across the South Island in the second week of April learning about the geography of the region.
2 nights in Hokitika, via Arthur’s Pass, with a great tree top walk thrown in.
Next stop Oamaru to check out the blue penguins and the Moeraki Boulders (this was actually a cool plan b as the bridge at Waiho was out on the west coast and SH6 was cut off for a couple of weeks).
On to Te Anau, the gateway to Milford Sound (which is actually a fiord, a drowned glacial valley) where the waterfalls were amazing.
Next stop Queenstown, where the brave and the mad had a go at bungy jumping off the bridge over the Kawarau gorge.
Drove the scenic route to Glenorchy and up the gondola and down the luge for the great views of the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu.
Heard about the opportunities at Queenstown Resort College and panned for gold in Arrowtown.
Off to Mount Cook village for our last night and the highlight of being on Lake Tasman in a boat surrounded by ice bergs from the Tasman glacier with Aoraki/Mount Cook as a backdrop.
Then the drive back to Christchurch airport for the flight home.
Well done to Mr Hunter for his hard work organising such a great trip.
