Whanganui's best young musical talent will be on display during the Smokefreerockquest on Saturday night.

Fourteen musical acts are set to compete at the Whanganui final of the 2017 Smokefreerockquest.

Whanganui High School's bands and solo acts gave a preview performance for their classmates on the school field on Friday morning.

As well as Whanganui High School, musical acts from Ruapehu College and Rangitikei College will compete in the event.

Family and the public are invited to see the show at the Royal Wanganui Opera House on Saturday at 7pm. Tickets are adults $20, students $10 from the Opera House.
