Visual Arts celebrations

The celebrations continue in the Visual Arts Department..

Mikayla Baldwin (Year 12), not only won the People Choice Award (which comes with a monetary prize from Fine Arts Whanganui and her work will feature on the cover of the Artist Open Studios Brochure 2018), but she also won the overall prize of the monetary Scholarship, which comes with an exhibition to be held at Fine Arts Whanganui, in 2018.

She will be assigned a mentor to assist her with the process, this exhibition comes with media coverage and an opening night and runs for one month.

Of the 16 Young Artist Scholarship applications, the top ten gained a Certificate of Distinction and were offered a $500 scholarship for UCOL, in a surprise announcement last night.

From Whanganui High School, these awards went to Tiana Absolum (Year 11), Lily Claypole (Year 12), Maia Falkner (Year 11), Abbey Hocquard (Year 12) and Eugenia Lee (Year12).

Also, in conjunction with Artist Open Studios, they were also offered an exhibition over the two weekends of Artist Open Studios 2018, in the Atrium of UCOL.

Keep an eye out for them all in the Artist Open Studios booklet and watch this space for more details closer to the time.

Our department is super proud of these students for putting themselves out there to be judged and they are now reaping the rewards.

We are excited by the calibre of students in our Senior classes for 2018 and look forward to celebrating their successes next year too.

Creativity takes courage.
