A team of four year 11 students from Whanganui High School will be performing their five minutes scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Shakespeare’s Globe Centre New Zealand (SGCNZ) festival in Wellington over Queen’s Birthday weekend.

This follows the recent regional finals which were held at Whanganui High School.

The team consists of Simmone Sarup, Timara Wallace, Jayden Grant and Lachlan Baxter. Lachlan says “most of the planning and direction was done by Simmone and Timara.” Lachlan enjoyed the experience and plans to continue doing drama at school.

Forty-nine groups selected from SGCNZ’s 24 regional festivals will share their highly imaginative and innovative interpretations of Shakespeare’s work in five and 15 minute accessible bites from 23 of Shakespeare’s plays on Saturday/Sunday, June 2/3 in public performances at the Michael Fowler Centre. On Sunday evening, garments designed by finalists of the SGCNZ Costume Competition will be modelled.

Also during the evening, 45 awards will be presented with the Hon Grant Robertson acting as MC. On Monday, students will do two out of the 20 workshops being offered.

The public performances are Saturday from 9.30am to 5.30pm and on Sunday from 9am to 5pm. Tickets cost $30 for adults, $20 for concessions, $12 for Students and Friends, $10.
